Since I can remember my mom always made it a priority for me to be around family. Every summer up until 6th grade I would go to Arkansas and spend almost the whole summer with my Granny, aunts, uncles, and all of my cousins. I would come down here so much I felt like this was one of my second homes. It’s like time would just stop and pick back up each summer, no matter all of our age differences we stayed in sync. Every summer was a movie to be seen, we already knew granny was about to give us the time of our life while we gave her a run for her money. My granny an OG, she been on game. She may play slow for a little, but she peeped the game from the door. I wonder if she knew everything we did was centered around the thought of her not catching us in the act. I still have flashbacks of her always pulling me away from the fun to come sleep in the bed with her. I’d be mad at the world that everyone was still having fun and I was in bed with her, but that was always some of the best sleep ever.
Spend genuine time with your family. Experience life instead of trying to capture it all through an app. The memories I have in my head are much better than a memory any camera could have captured. Respect ya elders, stop always thinking you have to have the last word and that nobody can tell you what to do. Be able to recognize constructive criticism and actually put it to good use. Nobody is trying to tell you what to do all the time, they’re trying to save you and keep you off routes they’ve been down before. Most importantly listen. Listening is such a key trait everyone needs. If you listen long enough you’ll figure out everything you need to know before you have to open your mouth.
I hate that so many people of my generation have such animosity against their family. If you don’t like your family be a gift to help them. One thing I hate is people that claim they don’t like something, but never try to improve the issue. Don’t be a cancer to something that’s already cancerous. I feel like being around my family and watching their actions are what shaped me to be who I am today. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but I’m a talented, handsome young man that is one of a kind (some might call me a bosshog). A solid family foundation can take you far in life. Nothing is better than going home to family eating good food and having great conversations.
